Solar Powered Cooking - My Outdoor Kitchen
Hi Everyone! 🌞
One of my absolute favourite things about living off-grid in Tassie has to be getting creative with sustainable cooking. Since embracing this way of life, cooking has become a whole new adventure, and I love how it connects me with nature every day! 🍽️🌿
Since moving into my caravan and starting to plan my dream tiny home, I’ve been busy creating an outdoor cooking space that’s not only eco-friendly but also super practical. I’ve designed it to rely mostly on solar energy and other sustainable methods, and honestly, it’s been a total game changer. Cooking outdoors, surrounded by nature, feels so free, and the best part is — it’s all powered by the sun! ☀️
Here’s a closer look at how I’ve set up my little off-grid outdoor kitchen:
🍲 Solar Oven: This is definitely the star of my setup! The solar oven works by using reflectors to harness the sun’s energy, turning it into heat to cook everything from roasted veggies to slow-cooked stews. It’s completely off-grid, with no electricity or gas needed, just pure sunshine. I’ve been using it on sunny days, and it’s been a dream. Plus, knowing I’m cooking with nothing but the sun’s rays just makes every meal taste better!
🔥 Rocket Stove: On those cloudy days when the sun doesn’t quite come out, or when I need a bit of extra heat, I rely on my rocket stove. This little beauty burns small amounts of wood super efficiently, which means I can cook meals with minimal waste. I love using it in the evenings when it’s cool outside, and it gives off that lovely, comforting warmth while I cook. It’s perfect for making hearty stews or a quick stir-fry after a long day in the garden.
🍕 Solar Dehydrator: One of the best additions to my outdoor kitchen is the solar dehydrator. It’s been a game changer for preserving fruits and veggies from my garden. I’ve been making sun-dried tomatoes, apple chips, and even drying herbs. Knowing that I’m using nothing but the sun’s natural heat to preserve all this fresh produce is just so rewarding. 🍅🍏 It helps me reduce food waste, too, which is a big part of living sustainably out here.
🌬️ Natural Shade and Ventilation: Of course, no outdoor cooking area would be complete without a comfy setup, so I’ve made sure to build a shaded space with plenty of ventilation. It’s all made from recycled materials, keeping in line with the off-grid, eco-friendly lifestyle. The shade keeps me cool while I’m cooking, especially during those hot summer days, and the open design means it’s always breezy and pleasant. It’s like having my very own outdoor kitchen oasis!
Building this outdoor cooking space has been one of the most rewarding parts of my off-grid journey so far. It’s amazing how much joy comes from cooking simple, delicious meals using nothing but nature’s power. 🌱 Not only does it feel great to know I’m reducing my carbon footprint, but it’s also such a satisfying, creative process.
If any of you are thinking about creating your own sustainable cooking setup or have any questions about how it works, feel free to ask — I’d love to chat more about it! 💬👇
Cheers to cooking with the power of nature, and making every meal a little bit greener! 🌾✨
